Dear members and friends of the synagogue community in Magdeburg,
It was with deep sorrow and great dismay that we received the news yesterday of the terrorist attack at the Magdeburg Christmas market. Our sympathy goes out to the victims and their families, the injured and all those who witnessed this terrible event.
Such attacks affect not only those directly affected, but our entire society, our coexistence and our values. Magdeburg has always stood for diversity, solidarity and peaceful coexistence between cultures and religions. An attack like this is an attack on humanity, peace and the freedom that we all share.
It is precisely at times like these that we must remember that hatred and violence must not divide us. Our synagogue community has always been committed to dialog and respectful coexistence - and we hold fast to this, especially in difficult times.
We would like to express our solidarity with all Magdeburg residents who are committed to peace, tolerance and cohesion. Let us continue to stand side by side in remembrance of the victims and in the determination to make our city and our community stronger and more united than before.
With deepest sympathy and with the wish for peace,
The Board of the Synagogue Community of Magdeburg
